Wombourne Volleyball Club have been recognised for their contribution to the local community and the transformation that has taken place at the club over the past 18 months by being awarded the title of Volleyball England 'Club of the Year'. This is a national award which recognises partnerships with local and community organisations, evidenced commitment to upskilling the clubs workforce and volunteer recruitment, as well as raising participation levels in the local area. There were a large number of nominations for the award with the club being shortlisted in the final three, before receiving the award on Saturday during the annual Volleyball England Awards evening held at the National Volleyball Centre in Kettering.

Over the year and a half the club have relocated to new facilities at the Dudley College Evolve Campus, seen its membership grow to almost 50 and after establishing a strong partnership with Dudley College, also help provide the opportunity for a further 25 college students to regularly participate in the sport. The club has now grown from one to five teams - three men's and two ladies - one of the men's teams compromising of club members, college staff and college students. Lots of the work has been made possible through a grant awarded to the club by Volleyball England 12 months ago. Success at the club has also taken place on court this year with two teams achieving promotion in their respective divisions and with Wombourne Volleyball Club now occupying positions in all 5 of the West Midlands Volleyball divisions. As well as raising participation in the sport, the club have also put an emphasis on improving the skills and knowledge of its members through funding coaching and refereeing qualifications to enable effective coaching sessions for a range of ages and abilities.

This is a fantastic achievement for the club and marks the phenomenal growth that has taken place over the last year and a half, and is recognition for the hard work and dedication of the club's committee and members. The club committee would like to thank all WVC full and casual members for their support.
