18/12/2014 - WVC FEATURED IN 3TOUCH VOLLEYBALL MAGAZINE!!
Wombourne Volleyball Club are featured in the December edition of Volleyball England's 3Touch magazine. This article underlines the transformation that the club has gone through since the merger with Coseley Volleyball Club and the start of the 2013-14 season.
Ladies 1 player Paula Jennings contributed to the article with Black Country and Staffordshire Volleyball Relationship Manager Rob Payne adding his comments on the development of the club over the last 12 months. The development of the club was attributed to the dedication of the clubs members and committee, with the importance of the club's links with Dudley College highlighted.
Everyone affiliated with the Wombourne Volleyball Club should be hugely proud of what we have achieved!

19/11/2014 - COACHING AND REFEREEING SUCCESSES
Over the last few months members of Wombourne Volleyball Club have undertaken coaching and/or refereeing qualifications. All Wombourne members that attended the Grade 4 Refereeing course were successful and have all now received their refereeing ID cards. The club added a further 17 qualified referees to members that are already in possession of a referring qualification.

Over the summer 5 members successfully gained their level 1 coaching certificate and alongside two further members of the club recently successfully achieved level 2 certification. The club now has 1 level 1 and 7 level 2 coaches. Congratulations to all!

04/8/2014 - SUMMER TOUR!
This summer, Wombourne VC have attended their usual series of outdoor tournaments. Although this summer has not yielded as much success as in previous years, the usual near misses, close calls and thorough competition leant to a fun yet challenging summer of volleyball.
Sandwell - 5th July
Two teams were entered into the one day tournament at Sandwell Valley Park, with WVC competing in both the men's and mixed divisions. The men's team had some very tough competition and finished the day 5th overall, with members of both the first and second teams taking to the court. The mixed team was made up of members of the current ladies squad, along with recent additions to the club and a couple of men's players recovering from recent injuries.
Although success was limited, the competition gave some valuable experience to new members of the club whilst the weather couldn't have been better and an enjoyable day was had by all.
Tamworth - 12-13th July
A number of WVC male and female players, and other friends associated with the club, competed in the annual Camping and Caravanning Club 'Volleyball Meet' held in Tamworth. The tournament is held over two days with the team competing in the top division. On the Saturday, the team finished in the top 4 positions and progressed through to the second day. Beating a team, including members of Rugby Phoenix VC, in the semi-finals, saw the team reach the final for the 3rd consecutive year. The team unfortunately lost in the final. It is the 3rd year running that a team of WVC players and club friends have finished as runners up in this competition. Let's see if we can break this next year!
Bath - 19-20th July
In previous years, the Bath Whitfield tournament has been attended by just enough Wombourne players to field a single team but with the growth of the club over the last 12 months, 3 WVC teams were entered. Counting players and other friends of WVC, 32 people attended the tournament. With the Black Country flag flying over Bath Rugby Club (courtesy of a member of WVC), glorious weather was had on the Friday night. However this was not to last as the campsite was awoken in the early hours of the morning by the sound of thunder, lightning and relentless rain. The start of play was delayed slightly to allow the rain to subside. After a very tough day of volleyball in tricky conditions, all 3 of the WVC teams were through to their respective plate competitions on the Sunday. As luck would have it, as soon as play had finished for the day, the sun appeared and the glorious conditions were resumed.
The weather on the Sunday was far kinder and much more conducive to playing volleyball. All 3 teams faced very tough competition with some encountering unexpected national league competition in their divisions. Several members of the squads had not experienced competitive volleyball for a number of years with some experiencing it for the first time. With this taken into consideration, all teams made a good account of themselves but all left the competition at the end of the group stage. Then came the deconstruction of the camp and the end of a great weekend. Members of WVC stayed around to cheer on friends from Rugby Phoenix WVC who were competing in the division 3 plate final. Thank you to all members, volunteers and friends of the club who have made these weekends possible.
Due to the commitment of many members of the club to the level 2 coaching course this weekend, Wombourne are sadly unable to field a team at the Salisbury Volleyball tournament but will be hopefully returning next year to bring further 'spirit' to the tournament.
